Shocked to learn from Dr. Valerie Alloy - administrator in the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services - that 15-16 black babies of every 1,000 born do not live to see their first birthday, student members of the of the of Wilberforce University Media organization (WU Media), a division of the Wilberforce University Experiential Learning Program (WU XLC), responded by proposing a series of podcasts to promote awareness about the problem to African Americans ages 18-25.

The infant mortality rate in the United States is higher than that of Cuba which is considered a third world nation. Even more alarming is the fact that in the U.S., the infant mortality in the African American community is more than twice that in white communities.
